Anna Kołodziejczyk "Architecture and interiors"

Ania Kołodziejczyk, a young and respected Wrocław painter, chose architecture as her theme of her art. This is a thread present in art for several hundred years; fascinating and solved in many different ways. The way Kołodziejczyk found is extremely individual and painterly extremely intriguing. Previously, the artist painted wider perspectives on entire quarters of houses, shopping pavilions or smaller buildings, which she presented with flat-layered strips of paint in rich and variable colors. At first glance, they might not have looked like architectural objects, but they certainly were. Colorful tones changed, image formats also, but the richness of colors and forms remained. For some time, to this range of formal solutions and topics new ones have arrived. Architectural interiors appeared, the colors began to be limited to two "non-colors", namely black and white. The compositions gained monumentality and discipline. They have become more easily identifiable. In these paintings Kołodziejczyk seems to be more succumbed to the beauty of spotted empty interiors with traces of former splendor than the power of his own imagination. The interiors of palaces and tenement houses from Wrocław, Budapest or Krakow appear on her canvases with amazing painterly power. Maybe they are saving the seen, maybe pure creation, maybe a mixture of these or other components. This is not the most important thing, the most important is the captivating painterly effect of this search. Bogusław Deptuła
